Vision for Kelowna I have lived in the Okanagan since 1965, the last thirty of those years spent in Kelowna. It is a city that I care deeply about. By securing a seat on Kelowna City Council, my aim is to help make a positive impact in the community by representing the best interests of the people who live here. As an independent businessman involved in agriculture I define myself as a candidate who recognizes the importance of finding a healthy balance between growth and the preservation of green space and the city’s many agricultural assets. Growth: I’m a farmer who supports well managed growth and development. My philosophy is vision tempered with common sense. We must ensure that our infrastructure keeps pace with population growth and continues to project a positive image for future residents of this city. I am dedicated to working with the community and local business to find strategies to help accomplish this goal with minimal impact on our current quality of life. Safe Streets: A significant portion of the RCMP’s budget is invested in keeping our downtown areas safe from crime. I will continue to offer my whole-hearted support to any new and ongoing efforts. Roadways: I am aware that there are many areas of concern amongst Kelowna residents regarding city roads. I will do my utmost to keep traffic moving as our city continues to grow and develop. Preservation of Green Space: As Past President of the Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market and the current Vice President of the market no one understands the need to preserve green space more than I do. As the population grows, so too does the need for increased parks, recreational facilities and the preservation of the agricultural assets and attractions that make Kelowna such a desirable city in which to live. As a commercial farmer and a City Councillor, I will serve an as effective liaison between the development and agricultural communities. Affordable Housing: I support the creation of affordable housing and believe it is important to provide single parents, seniors and low-income families with affordable, comfortable housing. We need to create a plan that demonstrates that we are being prudent with the taxpayers’ money and at the same time are helping to create a decent place to live for every resident of Kelowna. |
